Project Accountant

Role, purpose & scope:

The accountant will work together with the Finance & administrative Manager in planning, developing, and implementing policies, systems and procedures that are integrated and meet donor requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Recording all transactions relating to projects in the finance system on a timely basis

  • Working closely with Finance and Administrative Manager and other directly involved departments/staff to establish systems that are integrated and meet donor & requirements audit . Prepare and review monthly transactions for completeness and assurance and post required adjustments in a timely basis.

  • Ensure IMPACT internal year-end deadlines are met, and transactions are accrued in a timely manner. 

  • Ensure all transactions are supported by adequate documentation, fully approved and that documentation is filed and retained in a suitable manner.

  • Reconcile all project balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.

  • Produce financial reports as required by the project(s) and as required by the project manager or other project governance body, ensuring accuracy through the actions above and adherence to donor requirements always. 

  • Provide information and ongoing training to project staff on any relevant topic (e.g. transactions quality, creating and sharing any materials where necessary


Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong Financial Literacy Skills with full knowledge of Current Accounting Systems. 

  • Ability to create and implement good financial practices and controls, including transaction reviews and adjustments. 

  • Ability to work on multiple projects without loss of effectiveness. 

  • Knowledge and practical application of the international regulatory environment for INGOs

  • A strong commitment to IMPACT values and ethos

  • Team Player with good communication and interpersonal skills


Required Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

  • Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Banking, Economics or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution 

  • Minimum of CPA part III 

  • Registered with Institute of Public Accountants Kenya 

  • At least five years of progressive experience working in a similar position, managing grants and donor funded projects.
